The representation of masculinity in the work of Keith Vaughan and his circle

This project builds on the long-standing partnership between RPM and the Art History Department at Sussex, which is based on research and knowledge exchange. The partnership has overseen two CDAs, one in World Art (completed 2010) and one in the Royal Pavilion, both under the supervision of Dr Meaghan Clarke. In addition, Prof David Mellor has been invited to curate several exhibitions at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, the most recent of which was Radical Bloomsbury (2011). Earlier this year, Dr Meaghan Clarke was invited to advise RPM on a collections review of its fine art topographical prints.  Taking as its starting point two recent acquisitions by Keith Vaughan to the Royal Pavilion & Museums Fine Art collection, this project involves developing and delivering an exhibition on Vaughan´s depiction of the male nude and masculinity. The exhibition will take place in the Prints & Drawings gallery at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery in the autumn/ winter of 2013 and be on display for 6 months.
