First floor refurbishment reopening

We are pleased to report that part of the first floor, which has been closed off for refurbishment, has now been reopened and can be reached via the central stair case. The area contains a number of study areas, however there is still work ongoing in this area and hence some noise and disruption. It includes an IT Cluster and a number of Macs will be added at a later date.

Books starting with shelfmarks DB-DZ, E, F and G (History and Geography) are being permanently moved into this area and this was expected to be finished this week, though due to problems with the lift will now be completed as soon as possible. This is part of the plan to move to a more logical layout of books with Shelfmark A starting at the top, following through down the building to Shelfmark Z on the ground floor.

The remainder of the first floor is due to open in January, see the Refurbishment web site for more information.

North Basement

We are moving books from the North Basement to the reopened First Floor, and moving books down ready for the next phase of the refurbishment. For this reason the North Basement is current closed and a fetching service from the Information Hub is in operation. Please allow up to an hour for us to collect your books and bear in mind that others may have requested the same book before you.

Other places to study on campus

There are times when the Library can get very busy and you may be interested in some of the other study spaces available around campus, these include:

  • Meeting House: Quiet Room
  • Fulton: Ground floor general purpose
  • Bramber House: Second floor foyer area
