Hollywood Librarian

Hello,

Tom Roper has arranged a showing on campus of a film about the portrayal of librarians in film.  Here are the details he’s posting around:

The Sussex sub-branch of CILIP, with support from CILIP nationally, is proud to present the British première of The Hollywood Librarian. The film, subtitled a look at librarians through film, is the first full- length documentary film to focus on the work and lives of librarians and to compare their portrayal in films such as Sophie’s Choice, Philadelphia, It’s a Wonderful Life, Lorenzo’s Oil, Desk Set and The Shawshank Redemption with the realities of the modern information profession.  The film’s director, Ann Seidl, will be present at the showing and will lead a discussion afterwards.

The film will be shown at 7 pm on Monday 25 February in the Arts A 2 Lecture Theatre at the University of Sussex. The university is just outside Brighton and is easily reached by train to Falmer station, by bus from Brighton or on the A27 by road. For more transport information, see the University’s how to get here page at: http://www.sussex.ac.uk/about/howtofindus.html
