Experienced staff were looking for new ideas about teaching and how to better support our students. And everyone felt there needed to be a central place where we can find out what teaching training and services there are for staff and students.<\/p>\n<p>So last Summer term, ADQE and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/\">Technology Enhanced Learning team<\/a> sat down and plotted out the best way to create a space that everyone teaching at the University can use. Study Direct gave us everything we needed \u2013 a space where we could provide information, but also include resources and activities \u2013 and it was central and easy to find.<\/p>\n<p>Next, we set about gathering together volunteers and experts from across the University to come and share their insights into teaching and learning. PhD students and early career teachers talked to us about what it\u2019s like to teach for the first time and offered lots of tips and tricks those first few weeks. Lecturers came to talk us through the process of peer observation \u2013 how do it, how to use it effectively and the benefits of having someone else watch your teaching. And Clare Hardman from Skills Hub joined lecturers in sharing their expertise in embedding study skills in our teaching to help students develop their academic practice across their degrees.<\/p>\n<p>We put this all together to create videos and activities, templates and checklists, and pooled together resources and top tips from teachers for teachers \u2013 and voila, we have the start of the <a href=\"https:\/\/studydirect.sussex.ac.uk\/course\/view.php?id=26457&amp;rel=home\">Teaching and Learning Toolkit.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>And we&#8217;re off!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-284 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/adqe\/files\/2017\/02\/C3gXgB8WMAA7bTV-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/adqe\/files\/2017\/02\/C3gXgB8WMAA7bTV-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/adqe\/files\/2017\/02\/C3gXgB8WMAA7bTV-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/adqe\/files\/2017\/02\/C3gXgB8WMAA7bTV-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/adqe\/files\/2017\/02\/C3gXgB8WMAA7bTV-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/adqe\/files\/2017\/02\/C3gXgB8WMAA7bTV-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/adqe\/files\/2017\/02\/C3gXgB8WMAA7bTV-200x200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/adqe\/files\/2017\/02\/C3gXgB8WMAA7bTV-450x450.jpg 450w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/adqe\/files\/2017\/02\/C3gXgB8WMAA7bTV-600x600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/adqe\/files\/2017\/02\/C3gXgB8WMAA7bTV-900x900.jpg 900w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/adqe\/files\/2017\/02\/C3gXgB8WMAA7bTV.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Toolkit went live on 6<sup>th<\/sup> February 2017, with the launch marked by the Teaching and Learning Fiesta, where all of us involved in supporting teaching at Sussex got together to showcase what\u2019s on offer, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/skillshub\/\">Skills Hub<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/\">Technology Enhanced Learning<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/library\/teaching\">The Library<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/staffdevelopment\/\">Staff Development Unit<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/adqe\/enhancement\/teachinglearningenhancement\/teachingandlearningexperience\">TaLES<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All teaching staff and PhD students were subscribed to the Toolkit automatically \u2013 and we\u2019ve already had hundreds of you exploring what\u2019s on offer!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>It\u2019s your Toolkit \u2013 what kind of tools do you want in it?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We\u2019ve launched the Toolkit with a few core areas developed, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teaching for the first time<\/li>\n<li>Peer observation of teaching<\/li>\n<li>Teaching study skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As well as centralised lists of useful resources for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Services and support for students at Sussex<\/li>\n<li>Teaching and learning training and communities at Sussex<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now we\u2019ve created the Toolkit, we\u2019re continuing to develop it with teachers from across the University. Currently we\u2019re working with staff and students on pages covering:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inclusive teaching<\/li>\n<li>Supporting international students<\/li>\n<li>Marking and feedback<\/li>\n<li>Designing assessment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Toolkit is designed for teachers, by teachers \u2013 and so we want to hear from you.What do you want to see covered in the Toolkit?
