2015 has begun with something just a little new for the Centre for Early Modern and Medieval Studies \u2013 its very own blog. We\u2019ll use the blog to report on the research activities of the Centre, but also on the world of medieval and early modern studies at large.<\/p>\n

\"James<\/a>Autumn term 2014\/15 saw a full programme of topics ranging from The Rainbow Portrait (Matthew Dimmock) and devotions at sea (Tamsin Badcoe), to analogy in medieval poetry (James Wade) and sermons in St Paul\u2019s (Mary Ann Lund). This coming Spring term we\u2019re looking forward to hearing papers on an exciting range of topics – from Italian chapels and holes in early modern art, to medieval contrition and Shakespeare. Notably, we kick off the term with the first of what will become an annual medieval studies lecture – The Dove-Medcalf Lecture<\/a> – in honour of two of Sussex\u2019s past medievalists on Tuesday 27th<\/sup> January (Fulton 103, 5pm). This will complement our existing annual Shakespeare lecture, which this year will be given by Colin Burrow in May.<\/p>\n

CEMMS is also hosting a conference in July on Literature and Philosophy, 1500-1700<\/a>, organised by our some of our graduates. Look out too for the Early Modern Sussex exhibition and talks, which will be taking place from January through July at various locations in East Sussex, organised by Paul Quinn \u2013 more information on which will be on the website soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
