This event first took place on 12th May 1937, the day of King George VI\u2019s coronation, and has now become an annual tradition &#8211; providing a snapshot of what is happening in people\u2019s everyday lives across the country.<\/p>\n<p>This year, on Tuesday 12th May 2015, the Mass Observation Archive would like to invite children and young people to take part in this event, and to share a day in their life. In the video below, a group of young people and their parents explain why they think you should take record your day on May 12th.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FRiRgJROOLw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Recording your day<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Traditionally the Mass Observation Archive has invited people to record a written diary of their day. On May 12th this year, children and young people are invited to record a day in their life in whatever way they like &#8211; using sound, video, photographs, pictures, or even a written diary if you would prefer. Below are a few examples of day diaries in video form recorded by young people for the Mass Observation Archive.<\/p>\n<p>In the diary of your day, you might want to include important things such as: what you do, who you meet, what you talk about, what you eat and drink, the places you visit, the things you read, see and hear around you &#8211; and, of course, what you yourself think.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"350\" height=\"197\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/onaNaHQocWs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"350\" height=\"197\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vcUsSlaHTc8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Sharing your diary with the Archive<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Diaries should be in electronic form as email attachments (to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:moa@sussex.ac.uk\">moa@sussex.ac.uk<\/a>) or alternatively you can bring them along to a special \u2018Your Life in a Day\u2019 event at the Mass Observation Archive Building &#8211; The Keep &#8211; on Saturday 23rd May (see below).<\/p>\n<p>In your diary, you should try and avoid having information or images that are too personal or identifying.\u00a0As part of a new \u2018Everyday Childhoods\u2019 collection at the Mass Observation Archive, these diaries will be read and used for research and teaching, so try to avoid\u00a0including anything that may identify you or others.<\/p>\n<p>So that your diary can be added to the rest of the Archive for the future, you&#8217;ll need to include the statement below at the end of your diary. If you don\u2019t attach this statement, Mass Observation won\u2019t be able to keep your diary or make it part of the Archive:<\/p>\n<p><b>\u201cI donate my 12th May diary to the Mass Observation Archive. I consent to it being made publicly available as part of the Archive and assign my copyright in the diary to the Mass Observation Archive Trustees so that it can be reproduced in full or in part on websites, in publications and in broadcasts as approved by the Mass Observation Trustees. You can help\u00a0by\u00a0encouraging them to take part and by providing opportunities to record different parts of their day.\u00a0If you work in a school, club or youth organisation, why not make May 12th an activity all of the children and young people you work with can take part in?
