A new working      party for disciplinary procedures is set up in its wake<\/li>\n<li>Discussions begin for the establishment of a Centre for Continuing      Education (CCE), which will take over the role that Oxford began in the East      Sussex area. EM Eppel becomes the first Director. Organisation and faculty      are to undertake extramural teaching rather than set up a new department. It      is planned that CCE will form the University\u2019s link with the wider      community and will work closely with Southampton in West Sussex<\/li>\n<li>A new role for an information officer is set up, to enable the University      to communicate with the press and other news media, and to edit official      University publications<\/li>\n<li>AFRAS moves into Arts C Easter 1968<\/li>\n<li>University marks the 50th anniversary of the Russian      revolution. All Russian faculty visit the Soviet Union<\/li>\n<li>Most students whether undergraduate (UG) or postgraduate (PG)      favour living in flats or bedsits. A large number of UGs still live in      guesthouses. There is great demand for Park houses but not enough      accommodation. Plans to build a student village from 1968-69 are welcomed      by students<\/li>\n<li>Sir William Walton, guest conductor for the Brighton Festival,      is awarded Doctor of Letters at a special ceremony in the Meeting House on      26 April<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Student numbers<\/h3>\n<p>Over 3,000 students<\/p>\n<h3>Staff numbers<\/h3>\n<p>426 members of faculty<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is student unrest in spring\/summer 1968.
