Dr Sarah Watson, Academic Developer here in EE, interviewed Gabriella earlier in 2026 about this project: read her post here <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/learning-matters\/2025\/12\/15\/integrating-generative-ai-into-teaching-and-assessments-through-customising-chatgpt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Making (class)room for AI: Integrating custom GPT into teaching and assessments | Learning Matters<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3>Reflections on the progress made at Sussex as we support our students to become AI-literate through a values-led, institution-wide approach <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<p>Dr Katie Piatt, Head of Educational Enhancement, has published this post <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/learning-matters\/2026\/09\/28\/developing-ai-literate-graduates-through-a-values-led-institution-wide-approach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Developing AI-literate graduates through a values-led, institution-wide approach | Learning Matters<\/a> which explains the approach to AI in education that the University of Sussex has taken over the three years since Chat GPT-3 burst onto our screens, and reports on our progress. (I&#8217;ll plug our access to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/jisc.potential.ly\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/jisc.potential.ly\/\" target=\"_blank\">JISC&#8217;s Building Digital Capabilities Toolkit<\/a> here again!).  This article compliments others published in THE regarding AI Literacy, including this by Laura Duckett <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.com\/campus\/boosting-ai-literacy-across-your-institution\">Boosting AI literacy across your institution.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Universities UK, of which Sussex is a member, have worked with support from Pearson and the British Chambers of Commerce to publish a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.universitiesuk.ac.uk\/latest\/news\/work-based-learning-every-undergraduate\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.universitiesuk.ac.uk\/latest\/news\/work-based-learning-every-undergraduate\" target=\"_blank\">Future Jobs Roadmap<\/a> which includes the commitment to &#8220;Ensuring AI tools are accessible to every undergraduate student and every course has a lecturer who is an \u2018AI trailblazer\u2019 so that graduates have the skills to be AI pioneers in the workplace.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Long Read &#8211;<\/strong> This article <a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=6977138\">The Generative AI <\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=6977138\" target=\"_blank\">Learning<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=6977138\"> Penalty: Evidence from Chinese Secondary Education by David Str\u00f6mberg, Victor Lei, Yanhui Wu :: SSRN<\/a>, which reports AI use by school-aged students in China suggests an increase in attainment for homework tasks but a decrease for exam performance makes interesting reading. Phil has moved from The University of Kent to BPP, so now hosts his platform on a Substack here <a href=\"https:\/\/philanthony1.substack.com\/p\/a-new-home-for-the-digitally-enhanced?just_subscribed=true\">A new home for the Digitally Enhanced Education webinars<\/a>.  The next event is 14th October. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This summer I noticed a sharp increase in discussion around smart glasses, and mostly for unsavoury reasons.  However, technology like this has the potential to support inclusion and accessibility in education settings and beyond.
