{"id":38,"date":"2017-09-24T15:27:13","date_gmt":"2017-09-24T14:27:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/libstaff\/?p=38"},"modified":"2017-10-17T09:44:42","modified_gmt":"2017-10-17T08:44:42","slug":"the-library-staff-blog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/libstaff\/archives\/38","title":{"rendered":"The Library Staff Blog"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>By Ed Hogan<\/h4>\n<p>Dear colleagues,<\/p>\n<p>Much of the feedback from the Library Conference focused on how great it was to chat to colleagues in other departments, and find out what they\u2019ve been up to.\u00a0 Many of you have also taken part in the recent round of writing workshops, and produced great work.\u00a0 A library blog seems like the ideal way to harness your enthusiasm for writing, while continuing the conversation with other library staff.<\/p>\n<p>We hope you\u2019ll contribute, and we\u2019ve anticipated some questions:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where will it be, and how do I post?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The blog will have a nice big link on the Library Intranet homepage.\u00a0 You\u2019ll be able to subscribe to emails alerting you to new content.\u00a0 It\u2019s publicly viewable, but you\u2019re in control of how your work is promoted.<\/p>\n<p>You can send your posts to us, at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:Library.innovation@sussex.ac.uk\">library.innovation@sussex.ac.uk\u00a0<\/a>and we\u2019ll put them up for you.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>What can I write about?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pretty much anything.\u00a0 Have you been to a conference, or had some interesting training?\u00a0 Are you working on a specific project \u2013 for example, a re-classification, or the creation of an archive?\u00a0 Perhaps you\u2019re an intern with a story to tell.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe you just want to write about your journey to work, or your favourite part of the campus, or a good book you found in the P\u2019s.\u00a0 Gavin, for example, is going to write about his responses to the campus architecture.\u00a0 We know there are DJs and artists and musicians and writers in the library, and we\u2019d love to hear how that\u2019s going, and how it fits in with your day job!<\/p>\n<p>If you want to write something, but don\u2019t know where to start, come and talk to a member of the Innovation Group.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s the tone?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As casual and informal as you like. \u00a0The blog is a way to reach out to colleagues, not a spelling test.\u00a0 As long as you avoid offensive material, feel free to write how you speak.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How long does my blog post have to be?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are no length stipulations.\u00a0 You don\u2019t have to spend hours writing 500 absolutely perfect words.\u00a0 We plan to have a bitesize section for very quick updates \u2013 in those cases, a line or two will do.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will there be a comments section?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes.\u00a0 Ideally, we want the blog to be a place for dialogue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can I write my blog entry during work hours?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ask your line manager, first!\u00a0 The blog has the support of the Library Management Team, who see it as a great tool for communication.\u00a0 We hope that line managers will invite ideas at your regular department meetings.<\/p>\n<p>We look forward to reading your posts,<\/p>\n<p>The Innovation Group.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ed Hogan Dear colleagues, Much of the feedback from the Library Conference focused on how great it was to chat to colleagues in other departments, and find out what they\u2019ve been up to.\u00a0 Many of you have also taken part in the recent round of writing workshops, and produced great work.\u00a0 A library blog &hellip;
