The Twitter message went viral and triggered one of the largest contemporary movements against abuse of power, assault and harassment. This social movement is continuous and ongoing, digital and global, uniting and encouraging thousands of women and men to speak out and act against sexual harassment and assault.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The problem of sexual harassment and misconduct in the workplace is complex and needs to be tackled from many different directions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Dr Goncharenko commenced a research project in November 2018 that aimed to understand how the #MeToo movement transformed the public perception of accountability for abuse of power in the workplace and caused the development of new social and regulatory mechanisms to hold organisations and individuals to account.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-782\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/policy-engagement\/files\/2019\/11\/metoo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"213\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/policy-engagement\/files\/2019\/11\/metoo.jpg 213w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/policy-engagement\/files\/2019\/11\/metoo-100x141.jpg 100w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/policy-engagement\/files\/2019\/11\/metoo-150x211.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/policy-engagement\/files\/2019\/11\/metoo-200x282.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 213px) 100vw, 213px\" \/>As an output of the project and as part of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/metoo-a-journey-towards-a-harassment-free-workplace-tickets-64165811670\">ESRC Festival of Social Sciences event<\/a>\u00a0on 8 November, Galina has produced a guide, the\u00a0objective of which is to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>discuss various perspectives to halting the abuse of power, sexual assault and harassment,<\/li>\n<li>improve accountability for breaches, and<\/li>\n<li>empower people with new knowledge, ideas, ways to seek help and support, join campaigns and calls to action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Read the guide <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/policy-engagement\/files\/2019\/11\/metoo-booklet-2019.pdf\">#MeToo: A journey towards a harassment-free workplace<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Galina\u00a0Goncharenko Lecturer in Accounting (University of Sussex Business School).
