{"id":360,"date":"2017-03-20T08:30:36","date_gmt":"2017-03-20T08:30:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/psychology\/?p=360"},"modified":"2020-05-28T13:59:19","modified_gmt":"2020-05-28T13:59:19","slug":"king-lab-goes-to-westminster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/psychology\/2017\/03\/20\/king-lab-goes-to-westminster\/","title":{"rendered":"King Lab goes to Westminster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Dr Sarah King<\/p>\n<p>Last Tuesday\u00a0was Posters in Parliament, a day organised by the British Conference of Undergraduate Research, to allow students to visit Westminster and present their research to Members of Parliament.\u00a0 Robert Tempelaar, who spent the summer working in my lab (as a junior research associate funded by the Alzheimer\u2019s Society), was presenting our work on testing genetic methods to alter APOE4, a risk gene for Alzheimer\u2019s disease. First, the Ministers from the Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy fielded questions from both sides of the House as to how they are planning to support British research and industry after Brexit.\u00a0 Then, the House began to fill in readiness for Theresa May\u2019s statement on the European Council.\u00a0 Coming the day after the Brexit bill was passed through Government, this was fascinating. \u00a0She said her bit and then was pummeled by questions, again from both sides of the House (I was both surprised and pleased by the number of politicians I recognised).
