Fuel and Transport Poverty in the UK\u2019s Energy Transition<\/a> (FAIR), part of the Centre for Research into Energy Demand Solutions<\/a> (CREDS), examines the intersections between fuel and transport poverty, and low-carbon energy transitions in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Briefing. <\/strong>In Vulnerability to fuel and transport poverty<\/a> FAIR researchers highlight the groups of people that academic research has identified as vulnerable to experiencing fuel and transport poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blog. <\/strong>Transitioning to low-carbon transport must address social justice issues alongside emissions reductions<\/em><\/a>.<\/em>In this new blog, Dr Mari Martiskainen<\/a>, FAIR principal investigator, and Dr Max-Lacey Barnacle<\/a>, Senior Research Fellow at SPRU, explain why we must think beyond reducing emissions to ensure no one is left behind in the transition to low-carbon transport. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Event. <\/strong>Watch Mari in a Fuel Poverty and Climate Chang Panel Discussion<\/a> from NEA\u2019s Warm Homes Week, following a ministerial address by Rt Hon Kwasi Kwarteng MP, Minister of State for Business, Energy and Clean Growth. Mari and the other panel members discuss the huge opportunity to end fuel poverty created by the UK\u2019s 2050 net-zero commitment, and how fairness and equity can be hardwired into policies \u2013 as well as the tensions, challenges and pitfalls of doing so, possible models and examples of where people are getting it right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Event.<\/strong> In May 2020 Mari also took part in the Prime Minister\u2019s Council for Science and Technology Ministerial briefing session on retrofitting homes, with Energy Minister Kwasi Kwarteng (notes from the meeting are not yet public).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consultation.<\/strong> In July 2020, Dr Max Lacey-Barnacle<\/a> responded to the Wales Transport Strategy Scoping report<\/a>, urging the Welsh Government to recognise transport poverty in their anticipated Wales Transport Strategy for the coming decade. Members of the FAIR project, alongside SEG members, also highlighted the need to recognise transport poverty in policy through responding to the UK governments \u2018Decarbonising Transport\u2019<\/a> policy paper consultation.
