I am very excited to be joining CIED and be able to work with some of the most established academics in the field of energy efficiency. To CIED I bring an interest in the politics of energy efficiency, an area which remains under-researched. Most of the work on energy efficiency focuses on economics, technology, and policy design. In my research, I try to understand what drives policy evolution using case studies including energy efficiency obligations, on-bill finance and soft loans. I also have an interest in fuel poverty policy and the equity implications of energy policy in general. In the past, I mainly worked on environmental and energy economics, largely in the area of external costs of energy.<\/p>\n

Since my PhD at Oxford I have been a Visiting Research Associate at the\u00a0Lower Carbon Futures Group<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0Oxford University’s<\/a>\u00a0Environmental Change Institute<\/a>\u00a0and an Associate Lecturer and Thesis Supervisor on the\u00a0MSc in Nature, Society and Environmental Policy<\/a>\u00a0at the School of Geography<\/a>,\u00a0Oxford University and the MSc in Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environmen<\/a>t at University College London’s Energy Institute<\/a>. Past academic positions also include working in the Electricity Markets Policy Group at\u00a0Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory<\/a> and for the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Besides my role at CIED I work as a consultant being the Knowledge Leader for Energy Efficiency Policy at the Ricardo-AEA Group<\/a>,\u00a0an energy and climate consultancy where I develop and lead complex projects on energy efficiency. Key clients include the European Commission, government departments and agencies, energy companies and trade bodies.<\/p>\n

An important element of CIED\u2019s work is impact. I am lucky to be in a position where impact can be achieved relatively easily as I work on current policies. In the past, I have been an expert witness to the\u00a0House of Commons’ Energy and Climate Change Committee<\/a>\u00a0and have been interviewed by the New York Times<\/a>, BBC Radio 4<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0The Guardian<\/a>. My research\u00a0was cited by the\u00a0International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)\u00a0<\/a>and in various parliamentary reports.\u00a0Through my academic and consultancy work I also get invited to speak at national and international conferences, seminars and workshops. At CIED I will continue to undertake research that has the potential to impact on policy making \u2013 the challenge of energy efficiency offers ample opportunities.<\/p>\n

\"Jan<\/a>Jan Rosenow<\/a> has been working on energy efficiency policy for more than 10 years. He is a Senior Fellow at the Centre on Innovation and Energy Demand (CIED) based at Sussex Energy Group<\/a>\u00a0(SEG)\u00a0of\u00a0SPRU<\/a>, University of Sussex. He is also a Visiting Research Associate at the\u00a0Lower Carbon Futures Group<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0Oxford University’s<\/a> Environmental Change Institute<\/a> and at\u00a0Freie Universit\u00e4t Berlin<\/a>,\u00a0Environmental Policy Research Centre<\/a>.
