There is a strong social element with easy sharing and options to add comments to tracks.<\/p>\n<p>You can browse what\u2019s popular (\u2018Trending Music\u2019 or \u2018Trending Audio\u2019) or search for what you are interested in.<\/p>\n<p>When you have found the track you want you can \u2018Like\u2019 it, add it to a playlist,<br \/>\ndownload it (see below for downloading limits) and\/or share it to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google+, Pinterest or by email.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Is it free?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Like most apps, SoundCloud has several levels of account. The free account limits you to a <b>total<\/b> of 3 hours (180 minutes) of uploads and <a title=\"Link\" href=\"http:\/\/help.soundcloud.com\/customer\/portal\/articles\/247820-what-s-the-difference-between-each-subscription-level-\" target=\"_blank\">100 downloads<\/a>,\u00a0but if that is not enough for your needs you can choose a <a title=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/pro\" target=\"_blank\">Pro account or a Pro Unlimited account<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Will it work on my device?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>SoundCloud has mobile apps for <a title=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/mobile\" target=\"_blank\">Android and iPhone<\/a>,\u00a0but to use all of its features you will need to sign in using a web browser.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2014\/10\/Soundcloud.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1243 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2014\/10\/Soundcloud-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Soundcloud\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2014\/10\/Soundcloud-150x151.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2014\/10\/Soundcloud-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2014\/10\/Soundcloud-200x201.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2014\/10\/Soundcloud-300x302.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2014\/10\/Soundcloud-450x453.jpg 450w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2014\/10\/Soundcloud.jpg 479w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><b>Ideas for using SoundCloud in learning and teaching<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Tutors can add relevant recordings to Study Direct site &#8211; there are podcasts from across the disciplines, anything from <a title=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/instituteofphysics\" target=\"_blank\">Institute of Physics events<\/a>\u00a0to BBC Radio 4 <a title=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/in-our-time-history\" target=\"_blank\"><i>In Our Time<\/i> History panel discussions<\/a>. A whole playlist can be embedded in a<br \/>\nStudy Direct HTML block using the embed code from SoundCloud.<\/li>\n<li>Students can add links to recordings in forum discussions.<\/li>\n<li>Students could use SoundCloud to record mock research interviews then give feedback to each other by adding comments to the recordings.<\/li>\n<li>Tutors and\/or students could compile playlists of audio resources around a topic and share them with each other.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>What are the alternatives?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>In the music streaming market the alternatives to SoundCloud are services such as iTunes, Spotify, Deezer and Google Play, but for uploading your own audio clips, finding podcasts and audio of news etc. you might find these useful:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Link\" href=\"\/\/audioboom.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">AudioBoom <\/a>(formerly audioboo)<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chirbit.com\/help\/aboutus\" target=\"_blank\">Chirbit<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.openculture.com\/2007\/06\/podcast_library.html\" target=\"_blank\">Open Culture audio library<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Conclusion<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Sound Cloud can be used in many ways for teaching and learning.
