It\u00a0allows\u00a0you to engage with your students via\u00a0a series of polls, quizzes and games that you design.<\/p>\n<p>After setting a simple quiz you can give instant feedback, and track the students\u2019 progress over a period of time. Students are able to access and answer the quizzes via their smart devices, either as part of the lesson or from home.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Socrative steps: how does it work?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Here is an example of Socrative in action;<\/p>\n<p>Kitty\u00a0is teaching a class on the history of philosophy. She wants to use a Socrative quiz to test the students knowledge at the beginning of the session, and then again at the end \u00a0to assess what the class have subsequently learnt.<\/p>\n<p>Kitty\u00a0logs into Socrative and sets up a quiz, or a virtual &#8216;room&#8217; with multiple choice questions. The students go to <a title=\"Link\" href=\"www.socrative.com\" target=\"_blank\">www.socrative.com<\/a> and type in\u00a0the room number to enter the quiz room. Once you have signed up, you can create quizzes which contain either multiple choice or short answer responses, and then select the correct responses. You can also choose to leave general feedback for the question, or feedback dependent on the\u00a0student&#8217;s\u00a0response.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What are the benefits of Socrative?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It has a very simple, straightforward app,<\/li>\n<li>You can create games (team, races etc.) out of your questions,<\/li>\n<li>Students can respond from wherever they are,<\/li>\n<li>You don&#8217;t need hardware (e.g. no clickers),<\/li>\n<li>Socrative is good for concept checking and gaining a feeling of class understanding before and after the lesson,<\/li>\n<li>Results can be made immediately available to both the student and the tutor,<\/li>\n<li>Socrative is free.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>What are the cons?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>There is a lack of question diversity; only multiple choice and single answer are available,<\/li>\n<li>Socrative does not integrate with presentation software (e.g. PowerPoint).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Finally, exit tickets<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>An excellent feature for teachers is the Socrative <a title=\"Link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.socrative.com\/exit-tickets\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;exit tickets&#8217;<\/a>.
