The company also owns <a title=\"Link\" href=\"http:\/\/getrevising.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Get Revising<\/a>\u00a0which offers additional revision aids.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>One of our favourite parts to\u00a0The Student Room is the\u00a0\u2018create your own\u2019 learning area. Here you can do exactly what it says on the tin; create your own resources to help you learn and study.\u00a0Options include;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>creating a calendar-based study planner;<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2014\/12\/student-room.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1684 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2014\/12\/student-room-150x125.jpg\" alt=\"student room\" width=\"150\" height=\"125\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>making your own flash cards;<\/li>\n<li>revision cards;<\/li>\n<li>uploading revision notes (share detailed notes on a topic);<\/li>\n<li>quizzes;<\/li>\n<li>mindmaps;<\/li>\n<li>an \u2018organise your thinking\u2019 area which includes a Time Line, SWOT analysis, compare and contrast and analyse a character. You can share your audio file via email, Twitter or Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>You can replay the audio files and test yourself wherever you are, be it travelling home, or out walking the family dog.<\/p>\n<p>In a Guardian article, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/education\/2013\/feb\/26\/voice-recording-english-language-teaching\">\u2018Recognising the power of voice recording\u2019<\/a> <a title=\"Link\" href=\"http:\/\/russellstannard.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Russell Stannard<\/a> of the University of Warwick<i> <\/i>reviewed a number of tools and found Vocaroo to be the easiest for audio recording.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Vocaroo has to be one of the easiest tools I have ever used for making simple audio recordings. You click one button, record your voice and then choose from a variety of ways of saving the recording including as a downloadable MP3 file. Teachers all around the world have been using this tool and sending me very positive feedback.\u2019 (Russell Stannard)<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Vocaroo does not save your audio clips forever, however, so make sure you download and save your audio clip.<\/p>\n<p>You could also use your phone as a revision aid as many have voice recorder facilities.<\/p>\n<p><b>4. Brain Shark<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Find at<\/b>\u00a0<a title=\"Link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.brainshark.com\/build-it\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.brainshark.com\/build-it<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Cost<\/b> Free<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>App? <\/b>Yes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do you need to deliver a presentation when you return to university after the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2014\/12\/Fish.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1671 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2014\/12\/Fish-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Fish\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>holidays? You can use Brain Shark to narrate and record over a presentation or document, you can even make a talking white paper. Russell Stannard suggested sharing a narrated presentation with fellow students. This allows for feedback and the chance to iron out any tricksy bits before the big day.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you don\u2019t have a presentation to prepare for, adding audio to images and documents can really help with revision. You\u2019ll be using all your senses to familiarise yourself with complex concepts that you\u2019ll need to remember. Other uses suggested by the makers include adding voice to pictures or creating a podcast.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>5. When you are studying, your phone<br \/>\ncan bleep at you with all the allure of a digital mermaid beckoning you to the crashing rocks of distraction. Facebook updates, text messages, emails, notifications of online bargains all battle with our ability to concentrate.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s free, easy to use and allows you to block specific parts of your phone for set periods. For example, you can still allow your phone to ring, but block the ability of text messages and app usage. The app also totals up the amount of study you have done, giving you a nice warm feeling of accomplishment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Study Success at Sussex: S3<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The above apps and tools can help you to get digital with your revision, but how can you best organise your revision schedule and hone your revision techniques?<\/p>\n<p>See the\u00a0<a title=\"Link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/s3\/?id=28\" target=\"_blank\">Sussex S3 revision tools<\/a>\u00a0for advice.\u00a0The Study Success at Sussex website is a rich resource providing you with help in all areas of study. There&#8217;s a special section dedicated to revision. There are videos with students so you can get a real sense of how to manage your time from the people who are facing the same student pressures as yourself. At S3 you will find advice on;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/s3\/?id=69\">Planning and using revision time effectively<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/s3\/?id=70\">Revision strategies and memory techniques<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/s3\/?id=71\">Exam writing techniques<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is even a useful section on managing exam stress.
