Bring Your Own Devices for Learning (BYOD4L) is an informal 5-day online learning experience that will bring together educators\u00a0and students from across the world using social media to connect, share and learn together.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Created by Chrissi Nerantzi (Manchester Metropolitan University) and Sue Beckingham (Sheffield Hallam University), BYOD4L is running for the third time and continues to grow. It is now being facilitated by colleagues from <a href=\"https:\/\/byod4learning.wordpress.com\/collaborators\/\">nine universities<\/a>, including Sussex,\u00a0and is also linking up with educators in Texas for an online education chat. They will be involved in the various online spaces where BYOD4L conversations will be taking place &#8211; Twitter, Facebook and Google+.<\/p>\n<p>Each of the 5 days will focus on a different topic:<\/p>\n<p><strong>connecting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>communicating<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>curating<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>collaborating<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>creating<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each day, scenarios on the BYOD4L WordPress site will prompt reflection, discussion and further learning activities. Last year\u2019s Tweetchat was great for peer support and finding out about new ways to connect and create content.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As well as the online parts of BYOD4L there will be an opportunity for participants from the University of Sussex to get together offline with members of the TEL\u00a0team on Monday 12th January\u00a0to discuss the themes for the week, their own use of mobile devices and\u00a0what they want to get from the week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday meet-up <\/strong>13.30-14.30 Essex House 133. <a title=\"Link\" href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/usbyod4l\" target=\"_blank\">Book via Sussex Direct<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><b>How to join in BYOD4L at Sussex<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>There is no formal registration process &#8211; on Monday 12th January you can just go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/byod4learning.wordpress.com\/starthere\/\">start here page<\/a> on the <a href=\"https:\/\/byod4learning.wordpress.com\/\">BYOD4L website<\/a>. But if you are working or studying at the University of Sussex and are joining in with BYOD4L please <a href=\"https:\/\/byod4learning.wordpress.com\/surveys\/initial-survey\/\">complete the initial survey<\/a> or email <a href=\"mailto:tel@sussex.ac.uk\">tel@sussex.ac.uk<\/a> so that you can be informed about the Monday meet-up.<\/p>\n<p>If you are keen to get started sooner you can join in the Texas chat on Sunday evening by using the #byod4lchat hashtag between 8pm and 9pm UK time.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Want to join in but not familiar with Twitter, Facebook or Google+?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>If you want to join in but aren\u2019t already using any of the social media tools that are central to BYOD4L, there are online resources that can help you. For example: Twitter offer guidance on <a href=\"https:\/\/support.twitter.com\/articles\/215585-getting-started-with-twitter\">getting started with Twitter<\/a>; this YouTube video shows <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/6cbDDg7rH0k\">how to create a Facebook account<\/a> and \u00a0Google offer instructions on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/+\/learnmore\/getstarted\/guide.html\">getting
