Why not start the New Year by discovering some tools that could help you make your commute more enjoyable and productive.<\/p>\n<p>If you are commuting by public transport, you could use this time to prepare for the day by organising your calendar, or by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2014\/12\/09\/delete-or-file-managing-your-inbox\/\">decluttering your email inbox<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Twitter? You could schedule <!--more-->a few tweets using <a href=\"https:\/\/tweetdeck.twitter.com\/\">TweetDeck<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/hootsuite.com\/\">HootSuite<\/a> to save time later.<\/p>\n<p>Another useful, time-shifting tool is <a href=\"https:\/\/getpocket.com\/\">Pocket<\/a>, which allows you to save articles, videos, and web pages to read when more convenient.\u00a0All of your saved pages can be viewed offline, so you can read them anywhere without exceeding your data allowance. Pocket is integrated into more than 500 apps so you can share interesting pages directly from apps such as \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/\">Twitter<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pulse.me\/\">Pulse<\/a>, making sure you don\u2019t miss a thing.<\/p>\n<h3><b>E-relax<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Some people suggest that commuting time should be used to escape from work. Ebooks are an easy, lightweight way of accessing your leisure reading.<\/p>\n<p>Getting lost in a good book will make your journey fly by. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gutenberg.org\/\">Project Gutenburg<\/a> is a fantastic resource with over 46,000 free Ebooks for you to browse and read online or download to read offline. From <i>War and Peace<\/i> to <i>Grimms\u2019 Fairy Tales<\/i>, this selection will definitely allow you to escape to another place and time.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Brain train<\/b><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_1747\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2015\/01\/brain-2.png\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1747\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1747 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2015\/01\/brain-2-150x150.png\" alt=\"brain 2\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1747\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">creative commons licensed (BY) <a title=\"Link\" href=\"http:\/\/flickr.com\/photos\/125992663@N02\/14599057004\" target=\"_blank\">flickr photo by ajeofj3<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Alternatively give your brain a workout. We have picked two brain training apps, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lumosity.com\/\">Luminosity<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitbrains.com\/\">Fit Brains<\/a>, that are available free \u00a0on iOS and Android (with the option to upgrade to paid versions if you want to stretch your brain further).<\/p>\n<p>Both apps offer you exercises to develop your memory, attention span, concentration, problem solving skills and visual-spatial skills. It is suggested that you do these exercises for about 20 minutes two to three times a week, perfect for a train or bus journey to work!<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;d prefer to spend your time brushing up on your French, Spanish or German while on the move then you might want to give the language learning app\u00a0<a title=\"Duolingo\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2014\/06\/27\/gamifying-language-learning-duolingo\/\" target=\"_blank\">Duolingo<\/a>\u00a0a try.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Audio-drive<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Drive to work? One easy solution is to swap your Ebook for an audio book. <a href=\"https:\/\/librivox.org\/\">Librivox<\/a> is a great resource for free Public Domain audio books with apps for iOS and Android. Contributed to by volunteers, Librivox provides users with more than 15,000 free audio books that can be streamed or downloaded. Librivox notes that their recordings are Public Domain in the USA so do check the regional copyright status of works.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Podcasts<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>If you want something shorter than a novel or biography, consider a podcast.
