{"id":3699,"date":"2016-02-09T09:30:07","date_gmt":"2016-02-09T08:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/?p=3699"},"modified":"2016-02-24T15:19:08","modified_gmt":"2016-02-24T14:19:08","slug":"tel-innovation-scheme-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2016\/02\/09\/tel-innovation-scheme-winners\/","title":{"rendered":"TEL Innovation Scheme &#8211; The Winners!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Each year, Sussex TEL makes available grants of up to \u00a31000 to support the development of innovative practices in the use of technology within teaching and learning.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/innovation\" target=\"_blank\">TEL Innovation Scheme<\/a> gives Sussex teaching staff the opportunity to develop or experiment with new tools, resources or teaching approaches with the potential to inform practice in their School or disciplinary area. This year, we received many great proposals with a wide-variety of innovative ideas for practice being put forward and, whilst we would have liked to have funded them all, the selection process forced us to whittle the applications down to the following four winners:\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><b>The use of &#8216;SimMan 3G&#8217; in Pharmacy Education<\/b><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_3709\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture5.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3709\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-3709 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture5-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Technology Enhanced Learning, Innovation!\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture5-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture5-100x67.jpg 100w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture5-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture5-200x133.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture5.jpg 339w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3709\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SimMan: a model patient<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/lifesci\/\" target=\"_blank\">School of Life Sciences<\/a> has invested in a \u00a0life-size, computerised human patient simulator called the SimMan 3G for use on the new University of Sussex pharmacy course. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laerdal.com\/doc\/86\/SimMan\" target=\"_blank\">SimMan<\/a> (affectionately known as Simon or Simone, depending on the wig chosen) can be used for simulating clinical practice in a risk free, controlled environment which enables students to acquire the knowledge and understanding and enables them to practise and demonstrate clinical skills that underpin the safe use of medicines. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The aim of the TEL innovation project is to design case-based scenarios and associated trends for SimMan 3G use, using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.articulate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Articulate storyline 2 software<\/a> and lecture capture, to create e-learning packages and online assessments to facilitate student learning.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3712\" style=\"width: 206px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture6.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3712\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-3712 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture6.jpg\" alt=\"Technology Enhanced Learning, Innovation scheme\" width=\"196\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture6.jpg 196w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture6-100x148.jpg 100w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture6-150x223.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 196px) 100vw, 196px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3712\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr Denise Turner<\/p><\/div>\n<h3><b>Making the right connections&#8217;: Values and ethics in a digital world<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/profiles\/76805\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr Denise Turner<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019s project will utilise creative methods to explore the ethical complexities of professional practice within an expanding digital landscape. Students will work with an artist to create outputs based around a scenario designed to encourage ethical debates. There will also be a podcasting workshop and a bespoke session with a criminal barrister focussed on the Court setting. Outputs from the project will include an \u2018Ethics in Performance\u2019 in conjunction with the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsms.ac.uk\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Medical School<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and related content for the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/socialwork\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Social Work Dept<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. YouTube channel, which will also create a repository of material for future teaching.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>E-Learning&#8217; the Interprofessional Curriculum<\/b><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_3713\" style=\"width: 202px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture7.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3713\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-3713 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture7.jpg\" alt=\"Technology Enhanced Learning, Innovation scheme winner!\" width=\"192\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture7.jpg 192w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture7-100x102.jpg 100w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture7-150x152.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 192px) 100vw, 192px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3713\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Camtasia for building resources<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Dr Sabita Menon<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is a Teaching Fellow in Physiology who has been tasked with creating effective Interprofessional learning opportunities between students of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/study\/ug\/2016\/4876\/32618\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pharmacy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsms.ac.uk\/index.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Medicine (at BSMS)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/socialwork\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Social Work<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/psychology\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Psychology<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This project will create a video-based e-learning resource, using Camtasia software, that will help lay the groundwork before students are offered face-to-face IPE sessions. To do this, Sabita will work with TEL to develop a web-based mini-module on IPE that will introduce learners to its underlying principles. Through engagement with this mini-module, students will develop enhanced understanding of roles and responsibilities of other health and social care professionals, respect and understand the roles of other professionals and develop improved knowledge of the nature of multidisciplinary teamwork.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3714\" style=\"width: 194px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture71.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3714\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-3714 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture71.jpg\" alt=\"Technology Enhanced Learning, Innovation winner!\" width=\"184\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture71.jpg 184w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture71-100x106.jpg 100w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/Capture71-150x159.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 184px) 100vw, 184px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3714\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr Tanja Staehler<\/p><\/div>\n<h3><b>Public Speaking and Presentation Skills for Philosophy Students<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/profiles\/159294\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr Tanja Staehler<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019s project will attempt to counteract a low National Student Survey result in presenting ideas with confidence by creating a series of interactive educational films on Public Speaking and Presentation Skills for Arts and Humanities students. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The proposed films would consist of a series of mini lectures on Public Speaking that will explain the main mechanisms and ideas with the help of suitable examples. These mini lectures will be provided by Dr. Alexander Kozin who has taught Rhetorics and Public Speaking and will be interspersed by comments, examples and quizzes for students. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The students will be able to access the interactive videos through the University\u2019s Virtual Learning Environment and will be interviewed about their experience after giving their final year seminar presentations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We will keep you updated on the TEL projects through the blog throughout the year and, when completed, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">all of the projects results will be published on our webpages and presented at University of Sussex\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/library\/about\/projects\/mtw2015\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mobile Technology Week<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in November 2016. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Each year, Sussex TEL makes available grants of up to \u00a31000 to support the development of innovative practices in the use of technology within teaching and learning.
