We already offered some examples of this approach in <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2016\/04\/12\/doing-it-digitally-presentations\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Doing it digitally &#8211; presentations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and in this post I\u2019ll be looking at a range of ways that you can have a digital summer.\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Research<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If your summer is going to be about your research, then have a look at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/06\/23\/clever-apps-for-smart-researchers\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Clever apps for smart researchers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/11\/17\/survey-tools-for-learning-and-teaching\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Survey tools for learning and teaching<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. If you are going to be working in archives such as <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/09\/15\/exploring-the-keep-valuable-resources-for-teaching-and-research\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Keep<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> then <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/06\/30\/turn-your-phone-or-tablet-into-a-mini-scanner-with-camscanner\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">using your phone as a scanner <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">can be a great time-saver. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For more ideas and tips see my <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/flip.it\/BOZ4H\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tech for Researchers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Flipboard magazine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are going to present your research at a conference there are many <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2016\/04\/12\/doing-it-digitally-presentations\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">digital tools you can use for presentations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and we have some <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/05\/26\/top-tips-for-designing-presentations\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">top tips for designing presentations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. You can find great <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2014\/05\/19\/using-creative-commons-images-in-presentations\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">creative commons images<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to make your presentation more engaging and with the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2014\/07\/08\/flickr-attribution-helper-credit-with-a-click\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Flickr attribution tool<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, using the correct citation is a breeze. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Summer is also a great time to refresh or <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/02\/24\/the-online-academic-your-professional-digital-profile\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">develop your online academic profile<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Reflection and Planning teaching<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The end of the academic year is a great time to look back, reflecting on your teaching and your students\u2019 learning. Perhaps this summer you might want to try some <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/09\/01\/reflective-practice-goes-digital\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">digital tools for reflection<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While you are thinking about next year\u2019s teaching, it might be useful to consider <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/01\/20\/the-digital-student-what-do-they-expect-at-university\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">what students expect at university in terms of technology<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/guides\/developing-students-digital-literacy\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">digital capabilities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> they should be developing. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Using some learning technologies might be useful, for example you can <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/09\/08\/encouraging-student-engagement-through-interactive-lectures\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">encourage student engagement through interactive lectures<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">* using tools such as <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2014\/11\/25\/nearpod-bring-learning-to-life-with-an-interactive-mobile-presentation\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nearpod<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2014\/11\/11\/socrative-visualise-student-understanding\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Socrative<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2014\/09\/30\/what-is-poll-everywhere-interactive-mobile-and-now-at-sussex\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Poll Everywhere<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Or for something less dependent on lots of mobile devices try <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2016\/05\/17\/plickers-easy-use-quizzing-tool\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Plickers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Broadening the range of resources you use can enhance learning &#8211; perhaps using material from TV and radio from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2014\/11\/21\/box-of-broadcasts-media-on-demand-for-teaching-and-learning-sussexmtw\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Box of Broadcasts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or making your own <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/03\/24\/screencasting-and-podcasting-create-rich-learning-resources\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">screencasts and\/or podcasts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2014\/09\/09\/study-direct-add-your-own-video\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">add to Study Direct<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many of the things that students need to do as part of their study could be done digitally, from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2014\/09\/23\/study-smart-5-mobile-apps-for-students\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">managing time and resources <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/03\/31\/digital-tools-for-writing-at-university\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">producing written work<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Encouraging students to use a range of devices, apps and online spaces to <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4311 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/07\/Capture-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"Capture\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/07\/Capture-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/07\/Capture-100x62.jpg 100w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/07\/Capture-150x94.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/07\/Capture-200x125.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/07\/Capture.jpg 303w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>accomplish study tasks can help them become critical users of digital tools. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Modules that make the most of students\u2019 <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2016\/02\/16\/mobileforlearning\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">smartphones for creating and learning<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and\/or introduce them to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/10\/20\/learning-through-finding-choosing-sorting-and-sharing\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">digital curation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/09\/29\/learning-together-technology-enhanced-collaboration\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">online collaboration<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> can improve graduates\u2019 employability and better equip them for lifelong learning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Are you making the most of Study Direct?
