The session will be delivered in a flipped style to give participants the experience of how this would work in practice. During the session, participants will be guided to plan a flipped lesson, with a focus on considering how to facilitate active learning using technology and methods of peer instruction. \u00a0Strategies for engaging students with pre-class content will also be explored.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/direct.sussex.ac.uk\/page.php?page=staff_development_booking_form&amp;trail=staff_development&amp;ac=55769\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Book now<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Reaching out to international students through technology<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tuesday 4th October 15:00-16:30<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Venue: 133 Essex House<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is often difficult to help international students to integrate into Higher Education teaching contexts in the United Kingdom. This session will give participants the opportunity to explore ways of catering for different international students through language learning technologies and alternative social media platforms. We will try using a variety of relevant apps and discuss ways in which these could be used to improve learning outcomes for different groups of students. Tools that we will explore include: Twitter, the popular microblogging service; Storify, a tool to create curated stories; Periscope, a live streaming service; and Vine, the six second video creation tool.
