But as Ben explains, \u2018this is now something which can be done on your phone or with a range of cameras that can create 360 degree images in a single click\u2019. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ben is particularly looking at \u2018ways to deal with digital aspects of the archive and digitisation of heritage artefacts\u2019 and wants to use the technology \u2018in a heritage application where making virtual reality simulations would be too time consuming \u00a0&#8211; so the ability to create it with a camera is very desirable\u2019. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One project he is involved with is using the technology to add a multimedia component to poetry. He has found that \u2018spherical photography turns out to be a very impressive way of doing this because of the ability to add narration and annotations to media content\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>What are the educational benefits of spherical photography?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">have written before about <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sussex.ac.uk\/tel\/2015\/01\/20\/the-digital-student-what-do-they-expect-at-university\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the expectations of a generation of \u2018digital students\u2019<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and Ben believes that \u2018new media types such as spherical photography are often the way for a generation that\u2019s grown up with technology that wasn\u2019t around when I was growing up &#8230;It means that I can engage in a different way\u2019 <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>\u2018For me, a lot of teaching is about telling the story which will inspire the students and bring the information that you\u2019re wanting to present to them in a way that\u2019s engaging.\u2019\u00a0<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Digital tools that mix the virtual with the physical like this can bring locations and experiences to learners across distance and time. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Increasingly, museums and art galleries are using this technology to offer online views of their collections.
