Sexual Attitudes to the Real and the Virtual is an interdisciplinary network composed of anthropologists, art historians, art theorists, classicists, historians, lawyers, neuroscientists, philosophers, psychologists, scholars of film and television, and sociologists, interested in exploring a range of issues surrounding sex, its representation, and sexual attitudes to others and to oneself. It is interested in both empirical and theoretical issues. Collectively, it takes no particular political or ideological standpoint (though its members sometimes will).

An earlier incarnation of SATRAV was the AHRC CHASE funded ‘Sexual Objectification and Notions of Sexiness’ network, run by Hans Maes and Kathleen Stock . Maes and Stock are also the co-ordinators for SATRAV.
