Sussex MBA students took a four-day study trip to Madrid in March 2018 to learn more about management in government, business and research and to meet with Sussex Alumni based in the city.
The Madrid trip allowed both full-time and part-time MBA students to participate, which made the entire team quite a big one. The destination and the date were perfect timing as everyone was so excited to be in the sun and have nice weather.
Being in a big group with lots of interesting events ahead meant the trip was very busy and we stayed with the group for most of the programme. The togetherness is one of the best things to happen during the study trip because it allowed us to get to know one another, which we didn’t have much of a chance to do over the past few months.
I enjoyed the dinner with alumni who excel in their respective fields. It was also an opportunity to see the bigger picture of what Sussex contribute in creating inspirational global citizens. Our visits to Ericsson, BP, and the Madrid Stock Exchange were remarkable, featuring a lot of insights into the economy of the country and how they combat crisis as a nation. This was coupled with talks and presentations from institutional experts.
Besides the food and beautiful weather, the picture that still stands strong with me is the visit to the Museo Reina Sofia. Exploring the works of Fernando Pessoa, his concept of ‘Sensation’ with picture pieces of arts was just so interesting and thought provoking that I had to go back again and again. I could simply stay and spend the entire day in that beautiful museum.
This trip gave me beautiful moments to create lifetime friendships with some of my colleagues and I will forever cherish the time, the laughs and exploration we had together.
