Second Life Suggestions

Hello! I am currently planning to alter the library presence on Second Life, which is nice. The library currently is in it however it’s more of a shell of the building and doesn’t supply any functionality. Anyway I was wondering if anyone would like to suggest any changes/services which could be offered through the developed library (for example access to catalogue). ANY suggestions would be welcomed and helpful! I will try to arrange a focus group with interested people as it would probably be more useful to actually see the current building through Second Life and how it works, but thought I would try this first. Here is a link about the current Second Life Sussex campus:http://www.sussex.ac.uk/webteam/secondlife/ Thanks, Dan
It would also be useful to know what students think about the SecondLife concept – perhaps you ought to think about a focus group for them as well? After all, they are likely to be streets ahead of any of us in terms of what is Hot and what is Not. Is SecondLife something that only grown-ups think is cool?
Have any of you fallen into using SecondLife, either in work or Real Life? I was initially very underwhelmed with SecondLife until my daughter really got into it. Having watched her exploring for hours, I now realise that this sort of artificial environment seems absolutely instinctive to a six year old. She is able to navigate locations with much more speed and ease than she can navigate the web. Seeing her in action makes me wonder whether this sort of 3D environment is a better alternative as an interface than a conventional browser. It makes much more sense to her that, if she needs to go somewhere, she should get in a jeep, on a scooter, or even fly – rather than clicking a textual link. Likewise, if you are looking for an electronic resource, doesn’t it make more sense to pick it off a bookshelf than trawl an A-Z?
