Foodbank collection in the staff room

May

13

Hi All,

Claire Colburn in CEC is collecting food donations to take to the Whitehawk Foodbank http://thewhitehawk.foodbank.org.uk/  The collection point is in the staff room (underneath the health and safety poster)

Over a million people relied on foodbanks in 2014-15 (compared to 40,000 in 2008-9) and this number is, sadly, expected to increase: www.trusselltrust.org/stats

Please help by bringing in what you can and donating to this really important service.  All items should be non-perishable and unopened. Food products are the most needed donations but personal/family hygiene items are also needed; nappies, soap, female sanitary products etc.  A list of good items is here http://thewhitehawk.foodbank.org.uk/resources/documents/foodbank/The-Whitehawk-Shopping-List.pdf

If you’re shopping and see a BOGOF deal and only need one, why not donate the free one? Buy one extra item at lunchtime, or consider choosing a non-perishable snack in the Meal Deal at the Coop (cereal bars are ideal as they are relatively inexpensive, high in energy/calories, fairly healthy, and don’t require any preparation – may in crisis lack access to even basic kitchen equipment, and some struggle to pay for the fuel to heat food)

You can also help by:

– Bringing in cardboard boxes to help transport items

– Helping Claire to load up her car with donations

Please tell people who work outside the library about it – they might consider starting a donation point too, and Claire can organise collection.

THANK YOU!
