All three members of the Snapshots of Empire team – Professor Alan Lester, Dr. Kate Boehme, and Dr. Peter Mitchell – will be appearing THIS Friday at the Global and Imperial History Seminar at the University of Oxford.

The panel will be presenting a paper titled, “Snapshots of Empire: Imperial governance everywhere and all at once.” We will be exploring how the Colonial and India Offices processed information and organised their records. This paper will include considerations of both the Offices, as we address a few of the differences in how these two departments – though geographically close – differed in their goals and administrative approaches. It will then, based on case studies from 1838, share some preliminary questions and insights into how administrators in London attempted to simultaneously control and connect colonies around the world.

The seminar will be held at the Faculty of History, Oxford, at 5pm on Friday, 5 October 2016.
