The Library and Technology Enhanced Learning have come together to organise a week of exciting events for University of Sussex staff, students and researchers around the use of mobile technologies to support teaching and learning. Mobile Technologies Week begins on Monday, 17th November.
The programme aims to highlight the vast range of content and resources that can be created and consumed via mobile devices including smartphones, laptops, tablets and e-readers. If you’re new to the world of apps, e-books and iPads there’ll be sessions to help you get started and expand your knowledge. For those who are more mobile savvy why not try your hand at building a simple mobile app or learn how to produce and edit videos in a mobile environment.
An academic strand runs throughout, with a particular focus on techniques for making teaching more interactive through tools such as Poll Everywhere and enriching your online offering with Box of Broadcasts.
Some of the workshops have been designed specifically for, and with the input of students, and have a focus on apps for academic skills and using the cloud to secure and back up work.
The Research Hive Scholars are also getting involved and will be running an event around the topic of the ‘Mobile Researcher’.
Two not to be missed development opportunities include our first ever App Swap Breakfast and a SAGE Seminar on Thursday the 20th of November where Dr Sharif Mowlabocus, Senior Lecturer in Digital Media will be talking about the use of Twitter in lectures while National Teaching Fellow Professor Simon Lancaster (University of East Anglia) will lead an interactive session on “Using technology to facilitate more effective use of (teaching) time and space”.
Running in parallel with the various workshops and networking events there will be a chance to win prizes throughout the week via our daily Facebook challenges. For more information and to take part see https://www.facebook.com/sussexmobile. Each day we’ll also be publishing a post on this blog highlighting apps, resources and teaching techniques linked to the theme – including guest contributions from students.
Mobile Technologies Week will take place from the 17-21 November and the full programme can be located at www.sussex.ac.uk/library/mtw
