About

What is this blog for?

Welcome to the University of Sussex e-learning team blog.

We’ll be using this blog to provide updates about how we are developing learning technologies at the University.  We are particularly interested in blogging about the work we are doing in relation to Study Direct, our Virtual Learning Environment/ Learning Management System based on Moodle. We have been using Moodle as our site-wide VLE since August 2006 and almost all courses (modules) now have a Study Direct site. We will also use this blog as a place to report on projects with which we are involved and events that we have attended.

Why do we want to blog?

Over the past years we have done a lot of development and customisation work on the usability and design the Moodle interface. Through talking to experienced users and commissioning a usability study, we identified the key changes that we needed make to improve the staff and student experience of Study Direct.  Given that there is a large Moodle development community in Higher Education, we hope we can form some productive relationships with fellow Moodle developers and share some of the work we have been doing within Moodle.

Who are we?

The e-learning team comprises people from IT Services at the University and those who work in the educational development unit at Sussex. Those who contribute to this blog include:

Carol Shergold, E-learning Development Manager
